STEELPAN MANUFACTURING WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Mosaic Steel Orchestra Steelpan Manufacturing Workforce Development program teaches the basics of manufacturing to young people living in distressed communities. This program equips students with corresponding skill sets required to complete each step of the creative process (Sinking, Grooving, Preparation and Tuning) necessary to craft musical instruments from 55 Gallon Drums.

Our program presents real-world scenarios to encourage critical thinking and improve problem-solving skills. So, we cultivate technicians entering the workplace to possess “soft skills” that today’s employers expect. These include the ability to analyze a problem logically and formulate a solution, but also the ability to work in teams and to effectively communicate with others. Throughout the program there is encouragement to explore the many different areas and career paths within advanced manufacturing.
